Really great Thai! We keep coming back and trying something new and am never disappointed! Had the Evil Jungle Prince last night. YUMMM!! Only disappointment were the summer rolls. Not bad but nothing special. Otherwise have loved everything else!

Great service; mediocre, greasy food. OK for Hood River but this place would be out of business in Portland.

Pretty tasty food, in fact it is one of those meals you want to keep eating even though you're full because it tastes so good. Haven't been displeased with anything so far :) Service is good and so is the price. Bathrooms were a bit dirty but other than that the place is good.

I can not believe how amazing this place is. We live in The Dalles, and any time we are up in Hood River we HAVE to stop by the Thai House for food. We have a great little Thai place here too, but it doesn't compare to Hood River's Thai House at all. The service is better and the waitresses and waiters are amazing. They are so friendly and remember us every time we come in. It's definitely a place I will continue going to and a place that keeps bringing me back. Their food is amazing and I personally love the Pad Thai with Beef or Chicken. My husband loves the choosing different items each time so he can see everything they have to offer. If you ever want an appetizer I suggest the Spring Rolls, the fried ones. Sooo....yummy!! :) Can't wait to go back!!

Wow Thai House!! I just (literally like 30 minutes ago) ate dinner at Thai House and I had to immediately come back to my hotel and write a review. It was amazing. So amazing that I am on vacation and writing a review instead of enjoying the view out my hotel window. My boyfriend had the Tom Yum soup for an appetizer and it was really something special. It is hard to get that perfect combination of sweet, sour, and spicy, but Thai House definitely did it. He ate every drop of that soup. As for entrees, I got the Chili Fried Rice and it was spectacular. I really don't like fried rice, but I do like anything that has the word "chili" in the name, so I gave it a try. It was very moist and had a great flavor. I asked for the dish to be extra spicy and they obliged. It was hot enough to satisfy my craving for spicy food, but not so hot that it was inedible. My boyfriend got the Evil Jungle Prince, which sounds super weird but is actually just a curry with bamboo shoots and cabbage. It was also very good and had an excellent flavor. I can't comment on the authenticity of this place since I have only eaten Thai food in the US. However, I do know that this was just plain good food. The service was slow. But when you consider that one guy was greeting people, taking in-person orders, filling water, taking phone orders, bringing out food, removing plates from tables, etc., it is easy to see why it takes a few minutes! On a final note, the place was crawling with locals. They clearly think Thai House is fantastic and so do I!

The service is great the food is too sweet. The hubby and I went to the Thai house a few days ago, spurred on by the wonderful reviews of the place. First off we LOVE Thai food and can't get enough of it since we live in a small town with no Thai food restaurants, so we were very excited! The service was delightful being served by the family and the restaurant itself in a lovely old house that has been converted tastefully. The food, meh. Their secret ingredient is sugar. We actually had to request a dish of sliced limes to offset the intense sweetness in everything. We ordered quite a few dishes of different types to taste and they all had the same malady. Lovely evening none the less, just wish there would be a little less sugar in everything, it overshadowed the complex flavors of the Thai food we love so much. I gave it a three star rating due to the great atmosphere and service but the food was a two.

My husband thought this was the best Thai food he has ever tasted! I was pretty blown away by the Tom Yum soup. And not just because it was super spicy (oh yeah...when you say spicy, you better mean it here.) I hadn't had Tom Yum in a while because I had gotten tired of the lemongrass, tangy taste. When I got the soup, it tasted like no other Tom Yum soup I have ever had. In a good way! And that kind of summarizes up our experience there: It tasted like no other Thai food we ever had, but it tasted so good! I couldn't tell if it was like their own family recipe that was super authentic or if ALL the Thai restaurants I've eaten at before were serving up the Americanized standard of Thai fare. Either way, this place ROCKED. My husband got the Tom Kha. We shared the Spicy Seafood. All excellent! And the service was pretty good. I say pretty good because the main server Jessie was so friendly and outgoing. He told us how his family took over the adorable house that the restaurant is in. Then we had a really quiet server...ok, actually, she was silent. Perhaps she didn't speak English. So she couldn't really answer our questions. But Jessie by himself was just STELLAR!

Great food and great service! I come here with my friends that are vegetarians, vegans, or gluten free and everyone is always able to find something that satisfies their needs and their hunger. The staff is very friendly and they remember my usual order every time I go. I highly recommend the pad Thai, I've never met anyone who doesn't love it. The only complaint I would have is the spice levels can sometimes vary from day to day. For instance I might order a 3, and then come in the next day and it will be a little milder than it was before. But that doesn't bother me very much. This place is also great for large groups! There are a few rooms upstairs that you can get if you call ahead, or if they aren't very busy they'll give it to you. All in all, this is one of my top favorite restaurants in Hood River. Eat here.

Hands down our favorite Thai restaurant. The service is consistently great and the food... oh, the food! They know how to do 5-star spice.

We were in town for one night, staying down the street at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. We found this place by doing a quick Google search for thai food in the area and got a recommendation from the staff at our hotel. First of all, we got the best seat in the house. It was a lone table up a half a flight of stairs as you walk into the restaurant and look to your right. There were four of us in our party - one of us is a vegan. We all four found delicious food options to try immediately. From the spring rolls, Pad Thai served with a peanut sauce and curry to the deep fried bananas - we walked out VERY full and VERY satisfied. I even woke up the next morning craving the Pad Thai we had the night before. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was on point. Everyone was super friendly including our server and the owner Jesse, who we just happened to meet as he was walking by our table and overheard us talking about how much we loved the food and the ambiance of the restaurant. Next time we're in town, we're definitely coming back here for thai food!

My boyfriend and I are regulars at the Thai House and every time we eat there, we feel so welcomed! I remember ordering food at the last minute (I felt so so bad, but I love it here) and when I picked up my food, the waiters and waitresses patiently waited for me. That's awesome customer service and probably the best I've ever had!

  • Patrick M.

This was our first visit and it won't be our last! Awesome food, some of the best we have had with JUST the right spice level. Most places when you say medium, it comes out very mild. Medium here was exactly that...MEDIUM! Everything was fresh and quick. Service was excellent and everyone was very friendly.

Worst thai food ever. Incredibly greasy. I got the tofu pad thai (mild) and it was disgusting. Would never come back or recommend to anyone.

I have been able to eat here a number of times on my travels to Hood River and White Salmon. Definitely my favorite for Thai food in this area. Food has been consistently excellent. Have had the Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Gratiem Prik. I would like a little bit more flavor in the Tom Kha. Service has always been quick and friendly.

This place is a new favorite when passing through Hood River. It is is an older house that has been converted to a very cool little family restaurant. The staff was very very accommodating and service was fast. As for the food, it was much better than I expected, so fresh so clean and totally authentic. I am looking forward to my next visit to Hood River. The drunken noodles with beef was better than I have had at any place in vancouver or portland.

  • Bjorn G.

The service was really good but the food was not very authentic. Perhaps they are from a different part of Thailand, but the drunken noodles tasted like spicy Italian spaghetti with meat sauce. We are from the Washington DC area and did not find this to be very Thai compared to what we are accustomed too.

Dumbfounded as to how this place averaged anything above 1 star. Ordered Lad Puk and Vegetable dish, both swimming in what looked like the same sauce. Both were so overly salty that it was almost inedible. Thai ice tea was too sweet, even for the standards of this traditionally sweet drink. Bill was $36 for lunch appetizer, 2 entrées, and 4 drinks. Terrible to pay so much for terrible food.

  • Bill L.

Had the Seafood Drunken Noodles. Only had 3 shrimp, had no scallops at all and the calamari was like rubber. As if that wasn't enough, it was cold. Very disappointing. Literally the most disappointing meal I have had in years.(To give you an idea of how bad it was, this is the first time I have been compelled to complain about a meal...ever).

  • Anand P.

You cannot add red chilly powder or flakes to anything and make it a level 4 or 5 spicy. Firstly that is not even the meaning of spice. That is just how uncooked and hot you want your food. Most Thai food cooks for long so that all the ingredients diffuse their flavor in the soup or gravy. How the hell can you just add a bottle of pepper and call it spicy. It's raw water and pepper. Horrendous for taste and abhorrent for your stomach. Also I have a very high bar for being able to eat hot food but your food was just full of pepper. If it was someone older they would have died.

Call this the No Service House - got seated outside on the patio and then we waited. ..and waited. ..and waited. ..and finally got up and walked out after nearly 20 minutes. Other tables seemed to be similarly left in limbo. It was a Saturday night and they may have been short staffed, but still no excuse.

My favorite That restaurant in the world! I love the curry, all of it! Especially the pineapple curry! It's the perfect consistency and has just the right amount of chicken and veggies. The Thai tea is also delicious! The staff are so friendly too! Jesse makes every dining experience fun!

We really wanted to like this place in the cute little old house away from the main downtown area, but sadly neither one of us liked it. The service was friendly on an early Friday evening, but it was spotty and felt like we were forgotten. Also note, they do not serve wine or beer. :-( We ordered the garlic & pepper shrimp and calamari which was the best part of the meal, but it wasn't as good as expected and it would have been more interesting to have a spicy peanut garlic sauce. I ordered chicken Larb which had no flavor at all, not even spicy, even though I did order it medium spicy. My husband ordered Beef Thai Basil and he said that the beef was tough and he didn't care for the sauce. He ordered white rice & I ordered brown (hoping that it would be like the darker brown rice I find in local restaurants in the SF Bay area, but it was not). Maybe we made bad menu choices, maybe this is atypical. All I know is that we won't be back.

the reason i am only giving 2 stars is because of the service and willigness to make customers happy the food is below average and dosent even taste thai they are using pasta noodles in their noodle dishes and the spices arent even remotely close to tasting thai

Went there with my dad and sisters. I have to say, I wasn't really impressed! The food tasted good, Not great, but it was good- good enough to enjoy it. It wasn't horrible, but it didn't represent "Thai Food" as you would expect any place to do so. "Would I go back?" Well, I wouldn't say no... But it wouldn't be my 1st choice.

We ordered takeout, because the front desk rep at Vagabond Inn recommended this place. It wasn't the best Thai food we've ever had (a place in Texas tops the cake), but it was pretty good for the price. The place was packed by locals, which said a lot. We got the pad thai with tofu, which my wife loved. I got the pineapple fried rice with chicken. It was good, not great. Add some hot sauce and it gets better. The little Spring Rolls were light crispy and delish. Super friendly service and fast, too. With how many people were waiting for a table, we were surprised that we received our take-out order within the 15 minutes promised.

Super upbeat and friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price. We stopped here on our way North and it was definately satisfactory. They also accommodated our vegetarian preferences happily.

It was okay, maybe I have high expectations because I live in Portland. The spring rolls were very good but dipping sauce was mildly seasoned and not sure exactly what was in it other than some chopped peanuts on top and possibly vinegar, and citrus. Pra ram was good but I missed the cabbage and carrots, their version has cauliflower and green beans. The cauliflower was well prepared but green beans were a bit too hard for me. The yellow curry was pretty good, flavor wise. In both dishes, we ordered tofu. It was too soft and could have easily been improved by deep frying them first. The carrots weren't cooked enough. I got a level 2 spice (1-5 scale), it was a spicy 2. The brown rice (you have a choice between that and jasmine) was cooked to perfection. Seating is intimate, staff is friendly, food came quickly.

Incredibly friendly service. Sometimes when you just order water they forget about you. Not here. My water glass was never empty. I always order the tofu Pad Thai when I eat Thai food. It was very good. Extremely large portion. More than enough for two meals. They serve it with this yummy peanut sauce on the side. Tofu was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the drunken noodles always. He said these were excellent. Very large portion as well. Dipping sauce for the spring rolls seemed to be watered down but it was ok I used the chili sauce. Nice to have a yummy low key thai place with nice outdoor seating that I can walk to. I will definitely be back this time I will try something else.

After a nice day in the Hood, we decided to try this Thai House place which had good reviews and scoring 4.5 on yelp. We got seated pretty quickly and the service was actually pretty good. The decor was in this old house is welcoming. However, when it came to the food we were very disappointed. We have eaten in many Thai restaurants, including in Thailand, but the food here was not as good as all the places we tried before. We ordered phad see ew noddles and yellow curry chicken which were both disappointing. The noodles were actually Chinese noodles whose taste and quality were below average. The curry was too runny, potatoes not cooked all the way, and rice too dry. Overall, the quality of the food and ingredients were questionable. The service was good, the place was interesting but the food definitely needs to improve to live up to Thai standards.

San Francisco Bay Area has it's perks and pitfalls when it comes to yummy food. Fortunately, Thai House is up to par and would be fierce competition if it was located in the bay area. Luckily, The bay area is safe. The Hood River residents and tourists to the area are fortunate to have such a gem. The food is amazing and better than a large number of Thai restaurants in the bay area. I asked for Thai spicy and they delivered - hot, Hot, HOT! Loved every bite of my tom kha gai soup, combo appetizer and green chicken curry. The service was friendly and good (family owned and run) except it does get packed really quickly, so be prepared to wait as there is limited seating. Next time, I'll have to leave room for dessert!

AMAZING food! We love this place and have learned that this is the only place to go for Thai food in HR! Staff is wonderful the food is cheap, fast and wonderful!

Having lived in Portland and experienced the wide range of Thai cuisine available there, I was delighted to have the Thai House open up here in the Hood. The food is reasonably priced ($7) and the flavors are top notch. They could hold their own against any top Thai restaurant in PDX in my opinion. My personal favorites: Thai Basil Shrimp, Pad Woon En, Asparagus Delight, and their Penang Curry. The service was a little slow in the beginning, as one previous reviewer noted. However, it has gotten much better over the past couple months. My co-worker and I eat there multiple times per week for lunch...

Thai House is really good. They know how to do dishes proper spicy. They serve a wide variety of dishes, have decent hours (5-10pm). have outdoor seating for the warmer weather, and the service is quick. I like the Green Papaya Salad, Chicken Larb, and Chili Fried Rice. Their spice scale is on the definitely hot side, so having mild is still quite a thrill.

    (4)
  • gordon m.

Excellent food. The Green Papaya salad (medium) was excellent, and a new treat. The Larb (medium) was good, although probably not on my top 10 Larbs (I eat a lot of larb). The Tom Yum (hot) was absolutely out of this world, a spiritual experience. After the spice from the Tom Yum was taken in and dealt with, the flavors in the Larb were pretty much undetectable, possibly why I didn't like it more. Next time I'll try it without something hotter than it first, or get it hotter. Be aware that there's not an incredible amount of subtlety in the spiciness - it's all up front red chili, and medium aims to wake you up. Even if you're a true spice lover, I would start with hot before thai hot here. They mean it.

  • Jay C.

My favorite date night food. The decor is a fusion of Thailand and Hood River, which is exactly how it should be. The food is exellent and cheap for good Thai Food, especially since it's not in a big city. I usually call in my order and pick it up about 10 minutes later and even on busy nights they've had it ready for me. I usually like 3-4 stars at most Thai restaurants, but at Thai House I usually get 3 stars.

Not the best in town. Service can be iffy with inconsistent plates. Basically a role of the dice on your dish. Outside seating is good.

Heading from West Linn up to Walla Walla, WA my husband and I decided to stop in Hood river for lunch. We decided we wanted either Mexican Food or Thai Food, and boy am I glad we choose Thai. What a cute, quaint little spot the Thai House is. The restaurant was pretty busy and it appeared there was only one waitress, I was so impressed by her! She was very sweet, very punctual and kept a smile on her face the whole time. We ordered off the lunch menu and decided to share our 2 entrees. We ordered the Pad Thai Noodles with chicken and per the waitresses suggestion the Pumpkin Curry with beef (which is a special and not listed on the menu). Both dishes were amazing! Some of the best Pad Thai I've ever had and the pumpkin curry was a sweet coconut flavored curry (a lot like Panang Currry) with beef, broccoli, basil and fresh pumpkin. Can't wait to pass through or visit Hood River again soon so we can stop at the Thai House to eat!

Just down the street from my office, great lunch spot! Had the Panang Curry, super good and you can select from 4 levels of heat (the highest is Thai Hot, fabulous!)

I had a curry dish there and it was excellent! I also like the atmosphere of the place it is in an old house, very unique! My waiter was very personable and attentive. The food was well prepared and oh so satisfying!

  • Amy L.

Their drunken noodles are delicious!! And cheap too (about $9 a plate). The service was great, the seating was "rustic", and the house is just too cool. We will definitely be coming back. This gets 5 stars based on quality, quantity, and being close to where we live in the Gorge.

Wow! This place has amazing food! My husband and I had read good reviews before going and they were right. Good prices, great food, and really fun atmosphere in an old house converted into a restaurant.

First time at Thai House and it was excellent. Great service and terrific food. Had to try the drunken noodles based on other yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. Sat outside in the sun on the patio. Doesn't get much better than this at the Hood. Welcome summer.

Very good food. Thai Basil and Evil Prince are fantastic. The kitchen can be quite slow, so be prepared for a wait or call in a to-go order.
